UN Day of Non-Violence

Posted by jamie on the 02 October 2012

Hi Everyone!

This isn't directly related to me being in Moscow and believe me I do have lots to share since my last blog but today I thought I would share this fact...

I was searching the internet for an image of Gandhi and came across this giant cardboard sculpture so in the interests of being a museum geek- I decided to use this :)

Today is the UN International Day of Non-Violence (or Gandhi Jayanti in India) to commentate Gandhi's Birthday. In my opinion Mahatma Gandhi is one of humanity's greatest asseset. His non-violent protest to the British Government led to the independence of India and overcoming oppression through peaceful means.

Ganhdi famously said:

"There is no such thing as "Gandhism," and I do not want to leave any sect after me. I do not claim to have originated any new principle or doctrine. I have simply tried in my own way to apply the eternal truths to our daily life and problems...The opinions I have formed and the conclusions I have arrived at are not final. I may change them tomorrow. I have nothing new to teach the world. Truth and non-violence are as old as the hills."

I promise to update y'all about me and Moscow soon!
